Dangote To Receive ‘Pride Of Africa Award’

Chairman Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote will soon be honoured with the Hall of Grace Pride of Africa Award in Lagos.

Rupert Ojenuwa Managing Custodian disclossed this during briefing in Lagos and said the award is aimed at rewarding excellence in contribution to nation's building.
He said: “The Hall of Grace Awards was initiated to serve as a reward platform for deserving Nigerians.
You know Nigeria is passing through a lot of challenges that could threaten our collective but despite this; we know that Nigeria is not as bad as portrayed and that a lot of people are actually working very hard to make things better. “It is also true that criticisms are intended to make leaders work hard but praises such as this that our platform offers, could also make people who are already working hard to work harder.”
He explained that other Nigerians who would also receive awards include: Bayo Olugbemi for the Role Model Awards of the Year and Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State for Man of the Year Award.

The holiday season is here again. For the pupils, it is time to play and relax after the stress of the school year. For them, it’s a period they can enjoy their sleep without mummies coming to wake them up early.  For some parents, too, it’s a temporary relief from the hassles of school runs.
However, the holiday season comes with its challenges, especially for working class parents who live in urban centres. Many parents in this category will now be battling with the challenge of how to monitor their children while they are away at work. Some would be thinking of how to gainfully engage them.
For some smart Nigerians, including school owners, it’s time to make some money by organising  summer school and skills acquisition schemes. These, however, come at  a cost which the parents must bear.
Experts say in spite of this, parents must ensure that their children are engaged meaningfully. Otherwise, they could use the period for destructive venture because, as the saying goes, the devil finds work for the idle hand.
In order to keep them busy during this period, many parents have fashioned out positive ways to keep their children out of mischief and trouble while the holiday lasts.
Educationists and parents say pupils must first be taught how to maintain a balance between recreation and academic activities.
An educationist and principal, Global International College, Lekki, Lagos, Mrs. Bisi Olayiwola, says many pupils tend to see the period as a time to relax after a hectic academic exercise, but she warns that such pupils must realise that being on holiday is not tantamount to completing one’s academic programmes.
She advocates a balancing act between recreational pursuits and academic exercise. According to her,  pupils can also visit their cousins, aunties, grandparents and even recreational and historical spots.
She says, “This long holiday is normally seen by many pupils as a time for relaxation. They believe they have had a stressful time in the school, reading and sitting for their promotional examinations. Also,  it is not out of place for them to relax and visit some places of interest like the zoo, amusement parks, the National Theatre and Badagry to see the first storey building in Nigeria or even visit grandparents, aunties, and cousins.
However, “They must not forget that there are summer programmes, which focus on either academic or skill acquisition programmes or both. Pupils should keep busy by attending the remedial ones to work on those subjects where they are having challenges, while those who want to acquire skills in bead making, barbing, hair dressing and fashion design, among others, can also do so.”
Many parents have already mapped out how to keep their children engaged along this line of thought.
A civil servant, Mrs.  Bola Ajao, says her three children are already set for summer camp from next week.
But she explains that her second child, a girl, will be updating her skills in hairdressing, in addition to attending the summer camp.
She states, “My daughter, who’s the second child, apart from attending the summer camp, will also update her skills in hairdressing during this long holiday. She’s already in SS2, and I have enrolled her for the hair dressing session in a beauty salon.
“Definitely, I need to keep them engaged since I cannot be carrying them to the office every day.”
Also, Mrs. Christie Ajieh says she has a mixed bag of leisure and study for her two children, who are both in  primary school. She explains that she will be taking  them to Port Harcourt to spend some time with their father, who works in the Garden City.
Her children, she says, will also attend a summer camp, not in their school but elsewhere so that they can make new friends and have new experience.
She adds, “It is good to give them a new experience and exposure, and that is why I will enroll them for  summer camp in a different school. Besides, I have discovered that my daughter loves reading; I am going to encourage her by buying her more story books to engage her.
“Then, for her younger brother, I need to moderate his love for cartoons. He loves the cartoon series a lot. I need to regulate this during this period and make him concentrate more on his studies, though he is still in unior class.”

APGA Split Over? Bianca "To Succeed Ojukwu As Party Leader"

According to the Daily Sun newspaper, the crisis within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) might soon subside. It would be recalled that the party has broken into fractions as the National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, refused to comply with the stakeholders and restructure APGA after its leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was buried last March.

Umeh's alleged refusal led to him leading one faction and Governor Peter Obi the other, with cases still pending in courts. Umeh has been declared chairman by the Appeal Court in Enugu, and the Obi faction is heading for the Supreme Court. However, as November -- the month when the Anambra election is scheduled to be held -- is approaching, the man trying to reconcile the two factions, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has doubled his efforts.
According to a source privy to series of meetings of the APGA chieftains in Abuja, the efforts of the leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) eventually paid off.
It has been gathered that Uwazuruike met with Governor Obi, Umeh, Bianca Ojukwu and other prominent members of APGA in an undisclosed venue in Abuja, and reached an agreement acoording to which Umeh should remain as national chairman to conduct the Anambra elections.
The gathering also agreed that Ambassador Bianca would step into the shoes of her late husband as new APGA leader.
Furthermore, Umeh and Governor Obi would be meeting with Uwazuruike in Owerri next week to sharpen the new peace achieved.
Bianca is expected back in Nigeria from Spain in the first week of August, and it is expected that Umeh will visit Ojukwu's Enugu residence and the news of the reconciliation will be broken.
According to a source, Obi, who had been playing the role of the deputy national leader of the party, agreed to make serious sacrifices in the interest of the party, which, he felt, should remain in power in Anambra State.
On what would happen to Chief Maxi Okwu, who is the factional chairman of the Obi-led APGA and the members of the National Working Committee elected in April during the Awka convention, the source said with Obi agreeing to sheathe his sword he would call his people to order.

How Al Mustapha Tried to Kill Me!

It is no longer news that the notorious Major Al Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the Late dictator General Sani Abacha drove me into exile in the USA.

What is news happened late last week when a Federal appeal court in Lagos, Nigeria freed Al Mustapha of all counts of Capital Murder of Kudirat Abiola, the wife of the late Chief MKO Abiola, whose annulled June 12 1993 election victory plunged Nigeria into political anarchy; which almost led to the break-up of the Country. During the reign of Abacha, Al Mustapha terrorized the country to no end. Even then, serving generals were afraid of him. Now a feckless appeal court and a bungling prosecuting team have freed this murderer, who wanted to kill me and hang my hide in ASO Rock for dart games is now breathing the air of freedom made possible by democracy, which he so persecuted us for because he wanted Abacha and the Military to rule forever.

Suspicion has arisen that this judgment which freed Al Mustapha may not stand the smell test. Consider what has happened since his freedom. The Military authorities in Nigeria have made it known that Al-Mustapha is still in the army and will soon be decorated with a new rank of Brigadier-General presumably the rank of his mates (since denied by the military). It cannot be said that the Military authorities will gleefully announce that a disgraced and fallen murderer would be promoted without ASO Rock having no inkling of the development. A man who pursued me in Abuja in 1994 to 1995 with Vengeance detaining me in Alagbon, (Lagos), Wuse, Kuje (Abuja), detention Centers and finally sending  a 20-man Killer squad made up of soldiers, State security services , SSS, operatives and Policemen to arrest me and finish me off is now allegedly to be promoted  to a two –star general for all the atrocities that he committed with his Boss, Abacha. Could this be a desperate political play by President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 calculations?
What do we tell the family of Bagauda James Kaltho, a Journalist Colleague of Mine at the Abuja Bureau of THE NEWS / TEMPO/ PM / News, who succeeded me as bureau chief after I fled to the USA, who was eventually murdered by the goons of Al Mustapha and his body dumped at the Durbar Hotel, Kaduna and destroying his name by blood-labeling him as a bomber?. I cannot believe that a civilian government will attempt to use a serial killer like Al Mustapha for any useful purpose in a democracy, which the Yobe-born Major fought so hard to abort. A military major who, on account of his activities, dislocated my life and that of my family and barely escaped his killers by the grace of God. We wait to see what the powers that be in Abuja are planning with the schemed release and probable elevation of Al Mustapha.
Since President Jonathan does not know history of those who fought for the democracy that he is enjoying now, I call on him to promote Al Mustapha to a four Star general and make him his chief of Army Staff so that he can make history to repeat itself.
A writer wrote that those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
I hope Jonah is listening. Any role for Al- Mustapha so soon after his technical acquittal of murder of numerous Nigerians whom he killed in cold blood would make the Nigerian President an accomplice of Abacha and Al Mustapha, to be spitting on the graves of the heroic Nigerian fighters for democracy, many of whom lost their lives, and many scattered in exile un-rehabilitated.
Al Mustafa’s quick rehabilitation in the book of President Jonathan taught me two lessons: this kind of swift rehabilitation of murderers and criminals is the reason why not many are willing to die for Nigeria and which is why Nigeria under President Goodluck Jonathan has become one of open sesame of Looting, Kidnapping, and abuse of Presidential Power.
The Ingrates who inherited power have forgotten the blood and the suffering of the patriots who fought Abacha to a stand still to smoothen their way to Aso Rock and are now behaving like drunks who do not know how democracy came to the country. At the appropriate time we will tell them.

Is Denrele Gay? You Won't Believe His Response (PHOTOS)

Nigerian entertainer, Denrele Edun has been the source of quite a few controversies.

One of which is the question of his sexuality. Perhaps, due to his feminine and flamboyant nature, a lot of people have wondered if he is indeed homosexual.
He addresses the rumors below;
Is Derenle Gay?
I think people believe what they want to believe.
But a lot of people believe you are. And to prove them right, a picture of you Charley Boy went viral on the internet recently…
I don’t read the news, I make the news. The thing is people tend to look for loopholes when they see you doing well. And since people feel I’m feminine in nature, then they think I’m gay. But the truth is I don’t really care about what people say because I’m not fashioned according to what the society expects. And also I think for my personality, if I were gay, the news would have grown from speculations and would have been in people’s face.
On the part of Charley Boy and me, I was not expecting the paparazzi that came with the picture.
So what was the picture about then?
I really don’t want to go into details, but it could have been a controversial agenda, it could have a been a publicity stunt, it could have been the real deal and it could have been photoshopped, but whatever it was, people should just go ahead and make their conclusions.
So why is Denrele still single?
I’m a hustler and I’m still trying to get myself together. When the time comes, I’ll get married definitely, but there’s no one in the picture now. I’m searching and ready to mingle.
Who is your ideal woman?
"I like someone who would not try to change me and who would understand the complexity that I am. I want someone simple and absolutely free and not intimidated by what I represent."
It will probably be interesting to know that he did not outrightly deny being gay, and he avoided pronouns when replying the question regarding his ideal "woman".
Anyway, check out the infamous pictures of him and Charly Boy below. And as for his sexuality, looks like he will continue to keep us guessing.

No Age Restriction in Islamic Marriage – Director of Muslim Rights Concern

No Age Restriction in Islamic Marriage – Director of Muslim Rights ConcernProf. Ishaq Akintola, Director of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has expressed support for the controversial underage marriage law currently generating furore in the polity.
In a statement sent to African Examiner, an online magazine, he said teen marriage was in order, stressing that there is “no age factor in Islamic Marriage”.
According to him, “The conditions of marriage in Islam are four: Proposal and acceptance (al-Ijaab wa alqubuul), approval by both parents (ridaa alwaalidayn), payment of a dowry by the groom (al-mihr) and the presence of at least two male witnesses at the ceremony (shaahidayn ‘aadilayn).
“Age is therefore not part of the conditions which must be met before marriage can be solemnised in Islam. Where the bride is a ‘minor’, Islam prescribes protective solemnisation of marriage without consummation.
“This means that the girl who is deemed to be of tender age is left untouched by the man until she attains puberty. Another major condition for child marriage is that the girl herself has the right to repudiate the marriage when she attains maturity if she does not like her ‘spouse’.”
“Islam is a complete way of life and its institutions (including that of marriage) are based on divinely ordained and well documented rules. Whoever wishes to legislate constructively or comment objectively on any aspect of Islam must therefore arm himself with the divine and documentary evidence. Anything short of this will earn lawmakers and commentators disrespect and contempt of Islamdom,” he quipped.

Mayhem In Awka As Catholic Church, Community Youths Clash

Hail was let loose Wednesday evening, in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, as members of the Awka Catholic Diocese and natives of Umudioka village, Awka, had a bloody clash over dust-to-dust burial rites. In the clash, over 30 persons were seriously injured while about four vehicles were damaged.

Though some of the victims of the bloody clash have been discharged from the hospital, about eight, including a 70-year-old man, were still lying critically at the Regina Caeli Hospital, Awka, as at press time yesterday.
The clash, which was said to have taken place between 4.30pm and 7pm, caused pandemonium in the area, as various dangerous weapons, including machetes, were freely used, forcing residents of the area to run for their dear lives.
While the Catholic Church claimed that her members were attacked by the Umudioka youths, as they where coming back from Mass at the family of the late Mr. Samuel Nwanna Nnebolise in Umudioka, the villagers said they were attacked by thugs brought by the Catholic Church over their insistence on their burial customs and tradition.
It could be recalled that there has been a feud between the Catholic Church and the Awka community over the dust-to-dust burial rite, which escalated on May 23, 2013 during the planed burial of the late Nnebolise, when the youth of Umudioka allegedly disrupted the burial and desecrated holy things.
At the hospital yesterday, some of the victims, who could speak, alleged that they were ambushed by Umudioka youths, on their way home from the Nnebolise family, after the prayers.
Nurses said they battled all night to save the lives of the victims, especially, 19-year-old Moses Ogah from St. John’s Church Umuokpu, whose throat was almost chopped off and 23-year-old Aduaka Jonah Ekene, from St. Martins Church Abagan, who had severe machete cuts all around his body.
Narrating his ordeal to Daily Sun on his hospital bed, 70-year-old, Sir Peter C. Offodile, a knight of St. Molumba said: “Someone sent me a text yesterday that the Bishop wanted to address us by 2pm.
I came and they said that we should go and pray for the family of Nnebolise and everybody should march to the place for the celebration of Mass. All of us, including priests, indeed, about 50 of them, we went there and celebrated Mass and sermon was said and communion served.
“After the Mass, we all marched through Majoua Street on our way home. A group of boys from Umudioka stopped us and started attacking us with sticks and stones. They pushed me into the gutter.
One of the boys broke my hand with a big stick and some used their machetes to hit me. I managed to get out of the gutter almost naked, holding my trousers; I even lost one pair of my shoe. It was at the end of the road that we saw the police.
From there we were taken to the Cathedral and then to the hospital, Regina Caeli, where I am being treated.”
Another victim, Sir Obuekwe Obikwelu from Umuanaga village Awka, whose head was bandaged because of the machete cuts he got said: “We went to celebrate Mass at Umudioka at late Nnebolise’s family and after celebrating the mass, we were coming back when we were waylaid by some bad boys.
As we were running I looked back and saw an old man my fellow knight of St. Molumba being beating by the boys and I felt if I left him, they may kill the old man. I went to them and said this person you are beating is an old man and your brother; why beat him?
They turned round and swooped on me, the first one gave me a machete cut here, as I was holding the side, stones were rained on me and I was rushed to this hospital.” The Cathedral Administrator, St. Patrick Cathedral Awka, Rev. Fr. Patrick Amaobi Chukwuma, who has been at the centre of the matter, told Daily Sun at the hospital that they went to Nnebolise family to pray for them only to be attacked again by the Umudioka youths.
He said: “Yesterday some priests from Awka Diocese, from Awka region and Adazi region and some laity, including Catholic men, Catholic women and some youths we went to identify with poor family of Nnebolise, who have been suppressed by some people from Umudioka because they are poor.
This thing has been happening since May 24, when their father, Samuel Nnebolise, died.
The man before he died willed that he will be buried according to Catholic rite but the villagers said no, he would be buried according to traditional rite that is the controversy.
“But the family invited us to bury their father, according Catholic rite, which they refused and the corpse was returned to the mortuary and the family went into prayers.
Last week, they wanted to stage a prayer and after putting canopies and chairs for the prayers, the same youths masked themselves, with about 20 masquerades; that was last Monday.
They came into the family, armed and destroyed the canopies, took away the seats, snatched handsets, destroyed the altar set and carried everything away with some clothes.
“Yesterday, the church organised herself to celebrate Mass with the family. We went there with many priests and laity.
After celebrating the Mass, we were about to go when stones started flying from hidden places, from uncompleted houses, some houses. Stones were being thrown by unknown people. Our youths have to defend the members of the church.
They threw back the stones. We were going, not knowing that the Umudioka youths were armed with machetes and they started stabbing people. You have seen some of the victims.
They were about 36, who sustained injuries from machete cuts and stones. About 36 of them were affected. Some have been discharged. Those who are critical are still in the hospital.” Disagreeing with Rev. Fr. Chukwuma’s account, the Chairman, Okolobia Umudioka, Chief Ejike Nwude, said the church members attacked the village.
He said: “It’s unfortunate, the mayhem was caused by the thugs. They waylaid us yesterday, beat up our boys, destroyed our houses, even vehicles. Yesterday morning we went to the Area Command with Father Chukwuma for peace, and the Area Commander instructed everybody to be at peace and not to go to Umudioka again.
“We accepted what the commander said and left, everybody went home and that was why they took us unaware because we were not expecting them.
We thought we’ve reached a point of agreement. Unfortunately, around 4pm, I started getting phone calls that the Catholic priest, with heavily armed people, marched from St Patrick through Majua and when they got to Majua Street, they started breaking glasses of Umudioka buildings, throwing stone, singing war songs and making abusive insinuations.
“In the process, one Igbogi Ejikeme, unaware that they were coming for war, ran into them and they pounced on him. The young man is still in the hospital as I am speaking with you.
While they were going, they saw Chukeudeme’s house and they destroyed it. “They started throwing stones on anybody they met on the way. We ran away.
We could not do anything because we were not expecting such magnitude of thugs.” On who injured the church people, Nwude said: “Because they came from different places. They did not know themselves.
They attacked themselves, because immediately you step out of the land and tried to come back they take you as an enemy. They inflicted the injuries on themselves because they came from different places. They were hired. Some came from Nise, Mbaukwu and Nanka and so on.”

"We’ll Wipe Out Boko Haram" - Army

The Army said yesterday that the death of 15 soldiers killed by members of the Boko Haram would not deter it from crushing the terrorist group.

It also declared its willingness and capability of defeating all terrorist groups which are hampering Nigeria’s peace and stability.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-General Onyeabor Azubuike Ihejirika, who disclosed this in Abuja yesterday at the burial of the soldiers, said they died in their zeal and gallantry efforts to ensure that terrorism and insurgency are defeated so that our country can enjoy the much desired peace.

The Army chief, while commiserating with the bereaved families, said their death was not just a monumental loss to their relations, the Armed Forces, security agencies, but to the entire country and Africa where they fought and died for peace to reign. He said the death of the soldiers would further strengthen the military to wipe out terrorism.
He prayed God to grant the bereaved families the fortitude to bear the great loss, while promising that the Army will assist them and ensure they get all the entitlements as soon as possible.
Also speaking at the burial which took place at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Admiral Ola Saa’d, said the decision to make the ceremony public, was to warn the insurgents and other terrorist groups who have been causing trouble and destabilising the peace of the country that the military would not fold its arms and allow dissidents have their way.
He said: “We’re holding a public burial ceremony. By this ceremony, we are sending a warning signal to terrorists, insurgents and those who are in the habit of fomenting trouble to destabilize the country that the Nigerian Armed Forces is willing and capable of defending the territorial integrity of the nation”.
In his address, President Goodluck Jonathan, who was represented by Vice President Namadi Sambo, while commiserating with the officers and soldiers, pledged his administration’s resolve to improve soldiers’ welfare and strengthen their operational capabilities to conquer Nigeria’s security challenges.
He urged them to be strong at this time of their grief and take solace in the fact that they were winning the war against terrorism.
He said “rather than despair and lose focus, I urge you to strategise to defeat the enemies”. Speaking on behalf of the bereaved families, Pastor Iliya Joshua Hamadu, called on the military to investigate the remote causes of the death of their relatives because as he put it, “their death remains a mystery to their families.”

CAN In America Wants Boko Haram Designated As Terrorist Organisation

The members of the Christian Association of Nigerian-Americans (CANAN) on Thursday embarked on a rally in U.S. to demand that the Boko Haram group in the country be designated as Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO).

The members, who were led by the Chairman of the association, Pastor James Fadele, and its Executive Director, Mr Laolu Akande embarked on the rally outside the White House in Washington.

The group wondered why the U.S. State Department had refused to pronounce the entire Boko Haram as a terrorist group instead of referring only to its leader.

Earlier at a news conference held at the National Press Club, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, also faulted the U.S. government over its delay to classify the group as terrorist body.

Oritsejafor added that in addition to non-recognition of the plight of Nigerians, the U.S. has not offered  humanitarian assistance to victims of Boko Haram.

“America’s ambivalence over the terrorist challenges in Nigeria is a stunning betrayal. After 911, Nigeria was amongst nations that cooperated with global efforts on tracing terrorist financing to the point that a designated foreign financier was uncovered running a cereal factory in Northern Nigeria.

“FTO designation will kick off the tracking of terror-financing and arms shipments in Nigeria and elsewhere.

“It is now one year since I testified before the U.S. Congress and still the U.S. has not designated Boko Haram a foreign terrorist organisation even though it has killed citizens of over a dozen of countries and attacked American citizens too.

“Every week I get a text message that a church has been burnt or that a Pastor has just been murdered or that Christians were randomly rounded up on a roadside and summarily executed.

“Last week at my inauguration, one seat was conspicuously empty that of Rev Faye Musa Pama, CAN secretary in the Borno State Chapter.

“He was assassinated in his home in the presence of his kids. His kids pleaded for his life but still he was killed,’’ the CAN leader said.

Oritsejafor, however, pleaded with rich churches in the country to come to the aid of victims of Boko Haram insurgency as well as in supporting CAN financially.

Contributing, Akande called on the U.S. State Department to designate Boko Haram as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation to give the issue the international attention it deserves. (NAN)

Army Corners Boko Haram Leader, Shekau, In Borno Hills

The leader of the Boko Haram Islamic sect, Sheikh Abubakar Shekau, may have been cornered by operatives of the Joint Task Force in Gwoza hills, Borno State.

A top security source on Thursday said that the JTF had located the area where the Boko Haram leader was hiding.
The source stated, “We are combing Gwoza hills where we believe Shekau is hiding.”
The source added that a unit of the Army’s Special Forces team had launched a “well-coordinated assault” on a group of insurgents somewhere in the Gwoza hills areas on June 26, 2013. Shekau, the source added, was in the group of Islamists, with some of his closest aides.
He added that the operation ran into “hitches” and in the ensuing gun battle some of the insurgents and members of the Special Forces group lost their lives.
Another military source told Saturday PUNCH that one of the army casualties was one of the country’s best Special Forces officer, Major A.T. Fambiya, who had volunteered to lead the operation.
Sources told Saturday PUNCH five soldiers were also gunned down by the insurgents during the encounter.
Fambiya, who hailed from Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, had reportedly volunteered for the mission because of his excellent knowledge of the area.
The source said the military authorities had accepted Fambiya’s offer because he had grown up in the area and he understood the area’s rocky terrain.
Fambiya, who was on posting to the 322 Artillery Regiment in Benin City, Edo State, was redeployed to the JTF on June 13, 2013, a few weeks into his deployment to the JTF’s Operation Boyona.
A brief biography of the late soldier presented by the Nigerian Army authorities during his burial at the Nigerian Military Cemetery, Abuja on Thursday stated that he “was killed in action on 26 June in a fierce encounter with Boko Haram terrorists.”
The secrecy surrounding the operation made the next of kin to the Major, a pastor, Iliya Joshua, to call on the Federal Government to investigate the cause of the death of his brother.
“We call on the Federal Government to investigate the rumoured cause of the death of the officers since it remains a mystery to our family,” he said, without giving any explanation about what he meant by “rumoured death”.
Iliya later told our correspondent that he made the call to the Federal Government and the military authorities to investigate the deaths because his brother was not supposed to be in Borno.
He said that the late major was supposed to be undergoing training at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery, Kantagora, Niger State.
He said, “I made the call because he was supposed to be at the Army school of artillery. The last time I called him, he said that he was not part of those people that were going to Maiduguri for this operation.
“But later, I was told that he had been killed. He was not supposed to be on posting to that place.”
When our correspondent contacted the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen Chris Olukolade, he said that the mandate of the JTF was to look for all insurgents and not just the leader of the Boko Haram sect.
“We know that we are combing everywhere for every insurgent. The pursuit of the insurgents is continuing. That is the mandate at the moment,” he said.
President Goodluck Jonathan had told the CNN a few days ago that the Boko Haram threat would be overcome by security operatives in the country.
He said that the Federal Government was neither negotiating nor begging the Islamic militants as steps were being taken to deal decisively with the scourge.
He had said, “We are not negotiating with Boko Haram. It is done all over the world. It is not negotiation. We are not begging.
“Our security architecture was first designed to deal with ordinary criminals but since terror started, we have been building it. I believe if you are to interview me again in three months’ time, you will praise me that this government has tried.
“We are tackling terror from various angles. We must first of all stop them through military intervention, which we have initiated by declaring a state of emergency in three states where these terror attacks are predominant.”

Castro was arrested within hours and has remained behind bars.

Minister’s plea to bosses A GOVERNMENT

minister last night told UK bosses they should hire British workers before immigrants.  Hancock, immigration, economy, UK, work, force, cameronThe Business and Education Minister said taking on British employees was better for UK companies and the wider economy MP Matthew Hancock urged firms to avoid the “easy option” of filling jobs with foreign workers when they could train local recruits. The Business and Education Minister said taking on British employees was better for UK companies and the wider economy. The Coalition’s immigration clampdown means foreigners now fill 55% of job vacancies, compared with 74% under Labour. But Mr Hancock believes firms could still hire a larger proportion of British workers. “To build a strong, long-term economy we have got to play our part in government, and businesses need to take their responsibility.” MP Matthew Hancock He said: “As vacancies rise and unemployment falls further, it is the duty of companies, especially big business, to take on local young people – not immediately take the easy option of recruiting from abroad.” Mr Hancock, who is a close ally of Chancellor George Osborne, said he understood why so many firms took on foreigners. But he added: “To build a strong, long-term economy we have got to play our part in government, and businesses need to take their responsibility.”
