THE FAMILY UNITED IN GRIEF

THE FAMILY UNITED IN GRIEF
“
My love for you is eternal and endless. You have my whole heart for my whole life.
”
A note from wife Rebecca

THE family of Drummer Lee Rigby visited the spot where he was murdered yesterday and left a note from his son saying: “Your memory will live on.”

Estranged wife Rebecca broke down in tears as she placed the card from little Jack, two, among the sea of fl owers and tributes left outside Woolwich Barracks.

The note, addressed to “My daddy, my hero”, read: “Your memory will live on. You made me proud and I will miss you for eternity. Love always Jack xxx.”

Rebecca, 30, then placed her own bouquet next to it, with a card to “my husband, my love, my best friend”.

It read: “My love for you is eternal and endless. You have my whole heart for my whole life. Until we meet again my angel. Sleep tight.”

Relatives including Lee’s mum Lyn and stepfather Ian had to be consoled as they were shown the tributes left by the public at the makeshift memorial.

They included a message from Lee’s fiancée Aimee West, who had fl own back from Afghanistan on Saturday to bid farewell to her “guardian angel”.

Soldier Lee was also remembered at church services across the country, including Langley in his home town of Middleton, Greater Manchester.

Canon Philip Miller from All Saints and Martyrs told the congregation: “The last few days have made us all feel that a bit of ourselves has died too.

“It has been hard. Today is a day to remember with pride a fi ne, brave Langley lad, someone anxious to serve both Queen and country, a man devoted to his profession as a brave soldier and yet who was not afraid to tell his mum how much he loved her.”

Lee, 25, was killed in the street last Wednesday near his south-east London barracks.

Michael Adebolajo, 28, and Michael Adebowale, 22, were arrested at the scene.

Pressure is growing on Britain’s security chiefs. Adebolajo was known to MI5 after being held over terror charges in Kenya in 2010 and then deported to the UK.

Soon after Brit spooks allegedly approached him to work as an informant, but he refused and claimed he was being harassed.

Meanwhile terrified Army wives have begged for extra security amid fears they could be the next targets.

Military families are concerned they may be attacked after police patrols of Army barracks were axed due to Government cuts.

One wife said: “We felt a lot safer with the patrols, especially when they were armed.

“We feel vulnerable and have asked the MoD to reinstate the guards full-time.”

Last night armed police arrested a 22-year-old man in north London in connection with the killing.

It came after counter terrorism officers arrested three people on suspicion of conspiring to murder the soldier.

Two men, aged 24 and 28, were detained at an address in southeast London, while a 21-year-old man was arrested in Greenwich.

French police are probing whether the killing was linked to an attack on a French soldier who was stabbed in the neck in Paris.

● A MAN in his 20s was knifed in broad daylight yesterday less than 300 metres from where Lee was killed.
Scotland Yard said it was not linked to Wednesday’s horror.
