Reports reaching us say Alhaji Ademola Fashola, Lagos state governor Babatunde Fashola's father, passed away this morning in Lagos.
It seems that he died after battling an illness. It would be recalled that last year, amidst the Lagos Doctors' strike, he was flown to the United States for medical treatment.
The deceased would have celebrated his 80-years jubilee next month.
Governor Fashola's Special Adviser on Media, Hakeem Bello, who was with Governor Babatunde Fashola in Saudi Arabia, confirmed the information when contacted.
He said the official statement will be issued soon by the state government giving details of Mr Fashola's burial arrangement.
Meanwhile, Mr Bush Alebioshu, the federal lawmaker representing Shomolu/Kosofe constituency in the House of Representatives, has described the death as a "big loss to the state."
"It is a big loss to the state and its people. My condolences go to Gov Fashola, and the entire Fashola family and I pray for the peaceful repose of this great man," he said.
Officials of the Lagos state government say Mr. Fashola is "saddened" by the news of his father's demise.
The governor plans an emergency return to Lagos to attend the burial.
