Mario Balotelli has been ruled out of
Italy's Confederations Cup semi-final against Spain, with medical staff
confirming he is unlikely to recover from a thigh injury in time.
Balotelli, 22, picked up a knock in Saturday's 4-2 defeat to Brazil and the Italian Football Federation announced on Sunday that he is unlikely to be risked for the match.
Cesare Prandelli will monitor Balotelli's fitness and could have the AC Milan striker at his disposal for either the final or the third-place playoff on June 30.
The news adds to Italy's woes after Ignazio Abate and Riccardo Montolivo were added to a growing injury list following the defeat to the Selecao.
