Jigawa Government on Monday said it
had immunised more than one million children against measles in the just
concluded 2013 Health Week in the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by Alhaji Mati Ali, the Public Relations Officer in the state Ministry of Health and issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
The week tagged: ``Maternal, New Born And Child Health”, is designed to improve health status of children and women.
Ali said that the exercise was conducted between May 20 and May 24 in 576 selected health facilities in the state.
He said that more than 1 million children were targeted for vaccination against measles and 956, 169 children were provided with nutrition support while 92, 961 mothers were sensitised on best breast feeding and sanitation habits.
This, he said, was part of the health sector intervention to enhance service delivery at the grassroots.
‘’We conducted measles vaccination exercise and nutrition support services to children and mothers during the four-day exercise.
``More than 3, 000 personnel were engaged to facilitate smooth conduct of the exercise,” he said.
The spokesman said that the exercise was conducted in collaboration between the state government and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHDA).
Ali restated government’s resolved to reduce mortality, control measles and other child killer diseases as well transform the health sector.
