The National Executive Committee, NEC
of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN has overruled the suspension of a
national officer by the Rivers State Executive Committee, saying the
suspension violates the party’s constitution.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said going by the ACN Constitution, no state executive committee can suspend any national officer of the party.
”In view of this, the status quo remains and we enjoined all our members to allow peace to reign. If anyone has any grievances, the Constitution of the party is clear on what to do,” Mr. Mohammed said, threatening to sanction any member who fails to adhere to the party’s stand on the suspension.
Meanwhile, the ACN has warned its members in Rivers State to desist from rumour mongering that is capable of tarnishing the image of the party’s national leadership.
The party warned that disciplinary action will be taken against members found to be deliberately spreading such rumours.
