DAVID MOYES has completed his first signing as
Manchester United boss as the Premier League champions signed Guillermo
Varela last night.
United confirmed the arrival of the Uruguayan
right-back for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £1m, rising to
£2.5m depending on appearances.
Varela,
20, spent a number of weeks on trial at Old Trafford towards the end of
the season and impressed coaching staff and outgoing United boss Sir
Alex Ferguson.
But
Moyes gave the go ahead to secure a deal with South American giants
Penarol, to sign the defender as cover for Brazilian Rafael.
Penarol
head coach Jorge Da Silva said: “This is what he deserves. It is a
shame to see him go but you can’t deny him this opportunity.”
