Mimiko, Oke, others back Jonathan
Ondo
State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko has urged Nigerians to rally round
President Goodluck Jonathan in his efforts to bring an end to the
security challenges facing the country.
Mimiko made the call on Thursday in
Akure while playing host to members of the Governing Council of the
Federal University of Technology Akure led by its Chairman and
Pro-chancellor, Mr. Mahmud Yahaya (SAN).
The governor urged Nigerians to ignore those who had chosen to embark on undue politicisation of national security challenge.
He said, “I am of the view that the
effort to bring an end to the security challenges in some states through
the recently declared State of Emergency should be lauded by all.
“For me, this is the time to rally round the president and jettison all forms of divisive and non-productive politicking.”
Peoples Democratic Party governorship
candidate in the state in the 2012 election, Olusola Oke, hailed
Jonathan for declaring a state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe
states.
In a statement by his Special Adviser,
Media and Publicity, Kunle Adebayo, Oke said Jonathan took the best
decision any responsible leader should take, given the current
circumstances.
Oke said, “The president has acted as a
strong leader. The deployment of troops in the troubled states without
sacking the democratic structures is a clear evidence that Mr. President
believes in strenthening the institution of democracy. It also shows
that he is firmly in charge of the security situation in the country”.
Meanwhile, Executive Chairman, Popular
View Group, Chief Glory Emeh, has commended Jonathan for the emergency
rule he declared in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states.
Emeh described the action of the
President as “the right one at the right time,” and urged governors of
the affected states to be in partnership with the President, rather than
underrate his action.
“All well meaning Nigerians and
institutions are to back the decision of the President and support him
in his fresh commitment to eradicate any form of insurgence in the
country.”
Also, the Peoples Democratic Party
Chairman, Rivers State chapter, Felix Obuah, also commended the
President for his action, and pledged the support of Rivers State in all
his policies and programmes.
