RIO FERDINAND has pledged to help new Manchester
United boss David Moyes keep the silver rolling into Old Trafford after
signing a new deal.
The 34-year-old central defender yesterday signed a one-year extension to his current deal which was due to expire this summer.
Ferdinand,
who won six Premier League titles, two League Cups and the Champions
League under Sir Alex Ferguson, wants more playing for Moyes.
“It has been an incredible journey and I am glad it will continue,” he said.
“I can now fully concentrate on my club career, which has worked well for me over the past few years.
“This is a great team to be part of and we are now moving into a new era with the club which is very exciting.
“I am really looking forward to working with David Moyes and winning many more trophies with this great club.”
Moyes is yet to officially take up his new Old Trafford job, but is delighted to retain the services of the ex-England defender.
Ferdinand
was widely praised for his displays at the heart of the United defence
last season as Ferguson signed off his reign with another league
triumph.
And Moyes said: “It is clear for everyone to see that Rio has had one of his best seasons with the club.
“Even from the outside you can see what a big character Rio is around the dressing room.
“I am delighted he has signed a new contract and I am looking forward to working with him.”
Ferdinand has been at United since 2002, having joined from Leeds for a £30m.
