The
rains in Jos, the Plateau State capital, caused flooding that prevented
free flow of traffic on major roads on Wednesday afternoon.
The
roads along Nasco group of companies on Yakubu Gowon road were blocked
by the flood. Residents blamed the flood on the blocked drainage along
the highway.
Nigeria’s
meteorological agency, NIMET, had in March, predicted severe flooding
in Plateau State and some other states of the federation during the
raining season.
The
agency also predicted flooding in four council areas of the state: Jos
South, Barkinladi, Bokkos and Riyom Local Government Areas, in June.
The warning has left residents of the council areas panicking each time rain falls.
On
Wednesday, after the flood water subsided, residents were seen
gathering their belongings, as the clouds seemed hazy, in fear of
another downpour
