ABOVE: Darren Stevens on his way to 96 for Kent
But the match ended in a tame draw after Glamorgan reached 176-2.
DARREN STEVENS had Kent dreaming of their first
victory of the season in their County Championship Division Two match
with Hampshire at Southampton.
The veteran all-rounder scored 96 after Rob Key
and Sam Northeast had served up some buffet bowling to leave Kent
chasing 322 to win.
Their
10.4 overs went for 108, allowing Hampshire to declare on 207-3 with
Liam Dawson on 87. Stevens put on 144 for the fifth wicket with Daniel
Bell-Drummond but when he went for 66, Hampshire looked favourites.
Calum
Hackett and Adam Riley then frustrated Jimmy Adams’ men with an
unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 46 and the sides settled for a draw with
Kent on 296-8.
Glamorgan’s
Aussie recruit Michael Hogan took 7-92 as Gloucestershire lost their
last six wickets for just 22 at Bristol – a first innings lead of 30.
