THE Duchess of Cambridge was giving away no clues on the sex of her baby when she went on a shopping spree.
As speculation mounts, Kate headed for the posh
Bernard Thorp store in Chelsea, where the window displays were decked
out in blue.
But royalty watchers were left none the wiser about the upcoming birth as the duchess went about choosing soft furnishings.
Kate picked out beige and brown English handmade fabrics that cost £131.76 a metre.
She also went for a cream and light brown traditional herring-bone stripe for the curtains in a corridor.
And
for a sofa covering she preferred a darker, co-ordinating beige and
terracotta herring-bone design that she pored over in a samples book.
Kate is busy doing up two places before the birth.
One is the cosy cottage she shares with hubby Prince William in the grounds of Kensington Palace.
The other is a four-storey, 20- bedroom apartment in the palace itself, to which the couple will move after the birth.
Kate, 31, and a friend spent nearly 40 minutes in the exclusive store off the trendy King’s Road.
As
temperatures soared outside, she had to take it easy indoors. Kind
staff came to her aid and sat her down with a cooling glass of water.
“Kate was fascinated by all the designs and picked out two,” said an insider.
“She had very definite ideas about what she liked.
“It
was boiling hot outside so the door was open to cool down but she was
feeling the heat so we sat her down with a glass of water.
“The Duchess was charming and so lovely.
“She didn’t put on any airs or graces.
“She said she’d got so many ideas after coming in.”
Kate wore a short blue dress and comfy wedges for the interior design expedition.
On Thursday she will name the new cruise ship Royal Princess at its launch in Southampton.
And next Saturday she is expected at Trooping the Colour to mark the Queen’s official birthday.
