FAWAD AHMED, the rookie leg-spinner Australia are
fast- tracking into their Ashes plans, will be worth his place if he is
only HALF as good as Shane Warne.
That is the verdict of his former coach and
ex-Pakistan captain Mushtaq Mohammed who worked with Ahmed for a season
at Customs in Pakistani cricket.
The
Aussie government last week passed through new legislation that will
mean former asylum seeker Fawad, 31, can qualify for a passport quicker
and make the national team.
He
should play for Australia A against Ireland on Friday and then
Gloucestershire with the aim of him joining the Ashes squad next month.
Mushtag said: “I was with him for a year and he was a decent bowler but he needed to play a lot more at the top level.
“Since he has gone to Australia he’s got those extra opportunities.
“If he is only half as good as Warney, he will do a good job for them.”
