The carnage came during the so-called “Friday of Anger” march in the strife-torn country.
Hundreds were also hurt in clashes between security forces and the Muslim Brotherhood supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi.
Medics reported at least 30 deaths in the Ramses Square area of Cairo.
And over 20 deaths were reported outside the capital, including 12 in Nile Delta cities.

The injured and dead were brought to Fatih Mosque overlooking Ramses Square, where hours earlier people had met for Friday prayers.
But the body count continued to rise during the day as violence broke out across Cairo and in other towns and cities.
Four protesters were killed during battles with security forces in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia, while medical sources claimed eight were killed in Damietta.
Mr Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood said last night that there would be a week of daily rallies across Egypt.
