Holidays leave us with a hole in our wallets

Despite saving an average of £600 for their trip, the typical tourist is skint after seven days of a fortnight’s holiday.
Many underestimate the cost of food and drink while others spend money on day trips and gifts.

And a survey found that one in 10 splash all their cash within two days and 30% blow their entire budget in under five days. A spokesman for Kalixa Pay, which did the study, said: “As much as we all try to stick to a budget, the results show how often things don’t go to plan.
“This can be down to a combination of things such as getting confused about exchange rates, underestimating costs, being unaware of hidden payment charges from your bank or just getting lost in the moment.”
