A woman was horrified when she gave birth to a baby without a head.
It was a devastating moment to the first time mother, when she learned that her baby did not survive after being born headless.
Gynaecologist Doctor Shilpa Ambekar, who treated the 30-year-old mother, in Mumbai, India, confirmed that it has been an emotional journey for the couple, according to local press reports.
The mixed emotions of excitement and sadness came after the woman gave birth to twins, which one of them was perfectly healthy while the other twin was born without a head and did not survive.
The malformed fetus, known in medical terms as “Acardiac Monster” was born stillborn, according to a doctor at the Bombay Hospital.
“The parents, are still in shock after seeing the baby,” Dr. Ambekar said.
In the fifth month of pregnancy the couple was told that their was something unusual with one of the babies and was given the option to terminate the baby. The couple chose not to do so in order not to hurt the healthy baby, according to local press report.
