ABOVE: In demand: Darren Bent
NEWCASTLE have stepped up their interest in Aston Villa striker Darren Bent
Toon chief Alan Pardew meets newly appointed
Director of Football Joe Kinnear on Monday when they will run the rule
over transfer targets.
And Pardew will tell him to move in for Bent, 29, who he has earmarked to play alongside Papiss Cisse next season.
The
Villa outcast would jump at the chance of a return to the North East
where he enjoyed a successful spell at arch-rivals Sunderland.
The
Midlands club want £6m for Bent, who still has hopes of making
England’s World Cup squad, but Newcastle believe they can land him for
less.
