ABOVE: Di Canio is looking to bring in some fresh faces before the season gets underway
PAOLO DI CANIO wants £4m defender Bastian Oczipka to join his foreign revolution at Sunderland.
The Black Cats have made an inquiry for the Eintracht Frankfurt full-back, 24.
Busy boss Di Canio is scouring the market for a left-back to fill the spot vacated by Danny Rose.
Rose has returned to Tottenham after a successful loan spell at the Stadium of Light last season.
Former German youth star Oczipka is expected to be in contention for a senior international call-up this season.
Oczipka is one left-back option on Di Canio’s list of targets along with Argentinian Lucas Orban.
The Atletico Tigre defender has not decided between the Black Cats, Villarreal or River Plate.
Di
Canio is expected to wrap up deals for Juventus’ £7m Italy midfielder
Emanuele Giaccherini and Velez Sarsfield’s Argentinian right-back Gino
Peruzzi next week.
Their arrivals would take Sunderland’s tally of
summer signings to 10. And seven of Di Canio’s eight new additions so
far are foreign.
Meanwhile, Sunderland legend Niall Quinn has warned Di Canio not to fall into the same trap which cost Roy Keane his job.
The Italian is bringing in an entire team as he looks to change the Black Cats’ fortunes.
But ex-chairman Quinn reckons his revolution is fraught with dangers.
“He’s
making massive changes on and off the pitch. The club’s pretty much
unrecognisable from the one I left not too long ago,” said Quinn.
“It’s a high-risk strategy, not unlike what Roy did during my time at the club which was to try to make a positive impact.
“That worked for Roy. It helped get us up from the bottom of the Championship, get us promoted and helped keep us there.
“But it had gone wrong by the end and Paolo has to avoid that.”
