At least ten people
lost their lives on Saturday night in Abuja as a fuel tanker rammed
into passenger vehicles killing several people on the spot.
The accident which occurred at Zuba and outskirt of Abuja was caused by the brake failure of a fuel tanker coming from Kaduna axis. According to an eye witness who craved anonymity said that the driver of the tanker lost control as a result of the brake failure and rammed into the BRT bus and commercial motorcycles who were loading passengers beside the road.
“Many vehicles were involved; BRT bus popularly known as (El-Rufai), Toyota Sienna, 18-seater Passenger bus and a Toyota Carina. The tanker hit all the vehicles at the same time and many people died on the spot.
Those who sustained injuries were taken to undisclosed hospitals in Gwagwalada. As at the time of this report the wreckage of all vehicles that were involved were still trapped under the tanker.
But the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has put the number of the dead at 6 while those who sustained injuries at 16.
