A FIRED-UP Daily Star team was among hundreds of cyclists raising cash for the Help for Heroes charity as they set off on a 350-mile ride yesterday.

The Duchess of Cornwall wished the 300 riders well at the starting line in Paris for the six-day trip to London.

It is the biggest-ever Help for Heroes charity cycle for injured service personnel.

It comes as Britain has seen a tidal wave of support for the Armed Forces as a reaction to the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby.

The fundraisers included wounded British, US and Canadian servicemen and women and war veterans who will journey through the battlefields of World Wars I and II.

The Daily Star news and sport team included Duncan Wright, Steve Breach and Neil Chapman.

Veteran Matthew Lum, 40, from the Isle of Wight, who was among those taking part, said the ride would have “a lot of poignancy” in the wake of Drummer Rigby’s brutal killing.

He said: “It will definitely spur a lot of us on when we hit London and will hopefully bring out more supporters.”

Camilla, 65, said: “All the very best, I hope it all goes well.”

Help for Heroes co-founder Bryn Parry told yesterday how the charity had enjoyed a surge of support since Drummer Rigby was targeted by terror suspects while wearing a Help for Heroes T-shirt.

He added: “For many, that desire to show support has been focused on doing good to counter the bad.

“Help for Heroes has been the unexpected focus of this national outpouring of support.”

The Help for Heroes Big Battlefield Bike Ride has been held annually since 2008.

In London the cyclists will be joined by 1,300 others taking part in the 2013 Hero Ride, cycling to the capital from all corners of the country.

They will then lay a wreath at the Cenotaph.
