DAVID LUIZ wants showdown talks with Jose Mourinho about his Chelsea future after being told Barcelona want to sign him.

Luiz is alarmed at reports Mourinho does not rate him as a defender and could be willing to entertain offers.

Starsport revealed how key figures at Chelsea see Luiz as a potential future captain of the club – but the return of the Special One has plunged his future into doubt.

Barcelona hope to take advantage by offering £21m for Luiz, who enjoyed a strong end to the season playing mostly in midfield.

The Spanish giants have clinched the signing of his Brazil team-mate Neymar from Santos and see Luiz as the next piece of the jigsaw.

Barcelona have problems in defence with doubts over the fitness of Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique, and have failed with a bid for PSG defender Thiago Silva.

Chelsea signed Luiz from Benfica for £21m in January 2011 but he has experienced many ups and downs.

He was described by TV pundit Gary Neville as a “PlayStation footballer” after a series of erratic defensive displays.

But the 26-year-old has also played a vital part of Chelsea’s success, scoring spectacular goals in both legs of their semi-final win over Basel as they marched to Europa League glory.

Luiz is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2017, having recently signed a new deal and Starsport understands he does not want to leave.

Former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho, 35, has joined Monaco from Real Madrid for one year.
