Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun
Mimiko, on Tuesday swore in newly appointed caretaker chairmen for the
18 local governments in the state, with a warning that he would remove
any of them found to be engaging in illegal recruitment, like their
predecessors who were sacked last week.
Speaking on the occasion, Mimiko charged the new council bosses to improve on the internally generation revenue profile of their respective areas.
The governor warned them to avoid brutalising the public in the course of their revenue generation.
He said the essence of the local government system was not to pay salaries alone but to carry out laudable developmental projects in the best interest of the people at the grass roots.
The governor further charged them to revamp the system and make it more active and responsible, with a view to translating the dream of government to reality.
He said, “You as chairmen of these interim committees must be at the vanguard of re-awakening the local government areas to the manifest function of day to day administration of our grass roots.”
