Why did Ghana get floored so quickly in their first game of the World Youth Championships? Defensive lapses, according to the team coach.
The Black Satellites on Friday were beaten 3-1 in the opening Group A match, despite having control of the first 20 minutes.
"It's not good that we lost but I believe there were a few things there we could take home," Sellas noted post-match.
Ghana missed early chances, but France had their moments too. Les Bleuets hit the post in the 51st minute, before Geoffrey Kondogbia put them ahead and Yaya Sanogo got a second moments later.
Christophe Bahebeck scored a third before Ghana's Boakye Yiadom, following his inclusion as a substitute, got a consolation.
"We had a wonderful first half, but we were a little bit sloppy midway in the second. We also conceded that early goal. That created a lot of problems for us," the former World Cup winner said.
In the other group game, Spain thrashed the USA 4-1, meaning that there is still hope for the Satellites going forward.
Sellas also said that Ghana "finished the game stronger and that is positive" and with Spain as their next opponents, sorting out the chinks will have to be done quickly.
