A WHITE Muslim convert who planned to kidnap and murder Prince Harry is facing up to ten years in jail.

Ashraf Islam, formerly known as Mark Townley, was arrested just hours after Drummer Lee Rigby’s murder.

Police later found a laptop belonging to Islam showing internet searches for “kidnapping”, “guns” and “vans”.

His internet history also revealed he’d been on terrorist and firearms websites.

Two days after his arrest in London, Islam, born in Northern Ireland, was rushed through court in a sparsely-attended Saturday hearing where he admitted threatening to kill Harry, the third in line to the throne.

The charge – under section 16 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 – is reserved for the most serious “threats to kill” cases and carries a maximum ten years imprisonment.

He was remanded in custody by Uxbridge magistrates, west London. Islam, 30, is believed to have become a Muslim following a recent spell in prison.

A date has yet to be fixed for sentencing.

A source told the Daily Star Sunday the evidence was “overwhelming” that he was “of the terrorist type”.

The searches on his computers left “no doubts” how serious the threat was, according to the source.

And other sources have told us Prince Harry – a prime terror target because of his Afghanistan service – has been given extra SAS protection.

At the moment it is not known whether Islam, who has a colourful background as a fraudster, was simply a lone extremist or part of a wider network.

“He walked into a west London police station alone the day after Woolwich,” said a source.

And it was there that he told police he was going to kill Harry, 28.

The charge against him shows how police feared “that the said threat would be carried out”.

In 2008, Islam appeared in court in Liverpool under his birth name of Mark Townley after conning former soldiers out of hundreds of pounds.

A judge gave him a suspended prison sentence and banned him from England and Wales for two years.

That year he was also accused of a modelling scam that netted him £750,000.

In around 2010, he was said to have “ingratiated himself” with a Muslim group and travelled throughout the Middle East.

When he returned he handed himself in to answer fraud and theft charges.

His name change to Ashraf Islam is believed to have come about during or shortly after a stint in Maghaberry prison in Lisburn in 2011.

A newspaper report last August said the “notorious local fraudster” from Bangor, County Down, had reinvented himself as a “part-time” Muslim working in the porn industry.

Collared by reporters, he spoke openly about picking and choosing parts of Islam he liked.

He said: “I believe I should have multiple wives. But there are aspects of Islam that I don’t follow.

“Many Muslims wouldn’t agree with the fact I take part in adult films and photographs but it works for me.”

He wrote a book last year, telling reporters: “I have a lot of raw energy, passion and rage and now I know it’s better to channel that in to my writing and poetry rather than looking for someone to beat up.”

After Islam’s most recent arrest numerous web pages linked to him have been taken down.

Last night we were unable to reach his solicitors for comment.

He is believed to be in London’s Wormwood Scrubs Prison.

A Met Police spokesman said there was no date yet for sentence over the May 23 offence.

He said: “Ashraf Islam, 30 years old, of no fixed abode, was charged with threats to kill HRH Prince Harry, contrary to section 16 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.

“He appeared in custody at Uxbridge Magistrates Court on Saturday, 25 May, and pleaded guilty. He was remanded in custody for sentencing on a date to be fixed.”

According to sources Harry’s security has been beefed up since Drummer Rigby’s murder in Woolwich on May 22 and he is being accompanied 24/7 by two armed SAS men.

Security services are said to have picked up “chatter” that the royal Apache pilot ace is being targeted by al-Qaida sympathisers in Britain.

DOCTOR WHO BOWS OUT

It’s been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant actors and helm the TARDIS for a spell.

MATT SMITH has quit his role as Doctor Who and is heading for Hollywood.

The actor announced he would bow out playing the Time Lord in this year’s Christmas special after four years in the iconic role.

BBC bosses are now searching for a new Doctor with Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, 36, and Broadchurch actress Olivia Colman top of the hit list.

Announcing his departure, Smith said: “Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show.

“I’m grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day. Many of them have become good friends and I’m proud of what we have achieved over the last four years.

“It’s been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant actors and helm the TARDIS for a spell.”

Smith, 30, made history by becoming the youngest Doctor when he replaced David Tennant, 42, in 2010, aged just 26.

The then little-known actor’s casting received a mixed response from the show’s loyal fan base.

But he quickly shone, becoming the first Doctor to be nominated for a BAFTA.

Smith will next be seen in the cult show’s 50th anniversary special in November.

He will also star in an hour-long Christmas special before regenerating into the 12th Time Lord.

The ambitious star decided to quit to try to crack America after landing his first big Tinseltown film How To Catch A Monster, with Ryan Gosling, 32.

Details of his Christmas exit are a closely- guarded secret with only writer Steven Moffat and a handful of people privy to the script.

Our insider said: “Matt has made it clear he wants to pursue a film career. His role as Doctor Who has made him well known on both sides of the Atlantic.

“He’s hot property right now and has already had to turn down big movie offers due to filming commitments so now feels it’s time to do something different.”

His exit leaves the door open for a new Doctor, with BBC insiders warning fans to expect the unexpected.

Many believe a black or female Doctor is long overdue – with Colman, 39, already being touted alongside Homeland’s David Harewood, 47.

Other names being considered include Gavin and Stacey star James Corden, 34, and Ben Whishaw, 32, who played Q in James Bond hit Skyfall.

Jenna-Louise Coleman, 27, seems sure to continue her role as Clara Oswald when the next Doctor takes over.

Our insider said: “Matt pushed the boundaries a little bit by being so young and he has opened the door to endless possibilities. Producers want to surprise fans and have a long list of names drawn up.

“Olivia is a hugely talented actress and has the quirky personality to be a big hit.

“David has been linked to the role before while James, Ben and Benedict would all be great.

“No one has been cast yet so it’s just a case of who is available and who best fits the role.

“Details of the next series are so far unknown but the new Doctor will definitely be on screens in 2014.”

Thanking fans for all their love and support, Smith added: “The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other – they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show and speculate more about the future of it in a way that I’ve never seen before.”

Paying tribute yesterday, lead writer and executive producer Moffat, 51, said: “Matt is one of the nicest and hardest-working people I have had the privilege of knowing. Whatever we threw at him, his behaviour was always worthy of the Doctor.”

CHELSEA are ready to sell David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic to Barcelona for a combined £40million.

Brazilian defender Luiz is valued at £30m by the Blues, with Serb Ivanovic rated at £10m.

Incoming Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already sanctioned the plan to cash in on the pair so he can raise funds for his own summer spending spree.

Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala, 22, is a top transfer target and the Frenchman is regarded as a direct replacement for Luiz.

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi – available for £10m – is also on the Chelsea radar, along with £30m-rated Napoli hitman Edinson Cavani.

But unlike his previous spell at the Blues’ helm – when Roman Abramovich spent massively – this time Mourinho must sell first and keep the wage bill in check.

Which is why he has decided that Barca, who have been tracking Luiz for months, are welcome to him.

Luiz, 26, is seen as a liability at the back.

Ivanovic is a fans’ favourite for his no-nonsense, consistent displays either at right-back or centre-half.

However, having arrived after the first Mourinho era, the ex-Locomotiv Moscow man, 29, is now surplus to requirements for Mourinho.

BIG BROTHER SUPERFAN EMMA WILLIS ON LANDING HER DREAM TV ROLE

DAILY STAR SUNDAY

“
I feel like all my Christmases have come at once. I’m so lucky to have the chance to front one of my favourite shows ever.
”
Emma Willis
2nd June 2013

By Ella Buchan

GORGEOUS Emma Willis can’t wait to take over as the main presenter of Big Brother.

But the TV personality is also “really nervous” about filling the spike heels of original BB host Davina McCall, 45.

Emma, 37, said: “She’s a legend, Davina. I adore her. She’s brilliant and if I can be half as good as her I will be over the moon.

“She just did it perfectly and seamlessly for ten years. No one can repeat that brilliance.”

Emma, who describes herself as a “massive Big Brother geek”, has watched the show since it started in 2000 and has presented after-hours spin-off Bit On The Side on Channel 5 for the past two years.

Now she is “super-excited” to be taking over from Brian Dowling, 34, as host of the main show.

She said: “I feel like all my Christmases have come at once. I’m so lucky to have the chance to front one of my favourite shows ever. I’ve watched every episode for the past 13 years. The time I’ve invested in it has paid off.”

It hasn’t been a smooth path to the leading role, though. As awkward moments go, facing a mate whose job you have taken is right up there.

Emma said: “I have spoken to Brian and I’ve seen him. I know him really well because we’ve always been around this world together. We have a similar sense of humour and get on really well.

“It was obviously really difficult, having that conversation with somebody and hoping and praying they will be OK when they have every right to be pissed off.

“But he was lovely, a real gentleman – and he made it really easy when it could have been difficult.

“He’s a great bloke and understands the nature of what we do. I was grateful that he was so kind.”

Emma will be juggling BB with appearances on This Morning as regular stand-in for Holly Willoughby.

And she is also filming a second series of ITV2’s Girlfri3nds which follows three single girls’ quest for love.

She will also be keeping a well-manicured grip on Bit On The Side too, continuing to be involved alongside new host Rylan Clark.

Emma, who is married to ex-Busted star Matt Willis, 29, and mum to Isabelle, three, and 18-month-old Ace, added: “I told them I would still like to be involved because I feel like it’s my third child…or fourth if you include my husband!

“When I do BB I like to be totally submerged in it for three months. I love talking about the show every night, like the crazy fan I am, to the other crazy fans.”

Emma also forces Matt to watch the show.

She said: “He had never watched BB until he met me. Now he has no choice. He always says ‘I’m not watching it this time’. Then we watch launch night and he gets sucked in. He had better watch it this year!”

Emma lists her dream housemates as Joan Rivers, Jonathan Ross, Adam Ant, Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan, plus This Morning’s Eammon Holmes and Ruth Langsford (“I love their banter”).

And she hopes to charm both housemates and viewers with her cheeky humour. She said: “We have such fun on Bit On The Side that I’d like to try to bring some of that cheekiness over to the main show.

“You have to be in control and lead it because you’re hosting the big one. I can’t have as much fun as on Bit On The Side, though. You can’t be as naughty.”

Asked if she would enter the BB house herself, Emma said: “If I experienced it that might take it off its pedestal. But maybe it would be fun to go in for a little while, like when Davina went in dressed as a chicken.”

However, she won’t be recreating Davina’s infamous “bikini moment” when she interviewed evicted BB6 housemate Sam Heuston in a black two-piece.

“No way!” laughed Emma. “That woman has balls of steel and abs of steel, and a really firm bum. I’m not that brave.”

ARSENAL CAN’T AFFORD ROONEY

ARSENAL are struggling to put together a financial package to tempt Wayne Rooney away from Man United.

The Daily Star Sunday exclusively revealed the Gunners' ambitious interest in the England striker.

But we also reported that wages of up to £250,000-a-week were a potential stumbling block.

That is proving to be the case, although Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger's transfer budget means a fee of £25million would not be a problem.

Sources close to Rooney, though, insist wages look to be an issue.

PSG remain interested and personal terms should not be a problem there, with the French club bankrolled by Qatari money.

Rooney, though, faces Brazil here today with his club future still in doubt after former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed he had asked for a transfer at the end of the season.

That is privately denied by the Rooney camp.

The feeling within Old Trafford is that Rooney is likely to start next season as a United player under his former Everton boss David Moyes.

Meanwhile, Arsenal were hit by another transfer blow with Gonzalo Higuain deciding to snub them and join Juventus instead.

The Gunners were keen to land the Real Madrid misfit and were prepared to offer around £18m.

Juventus, though, bid more than £21m for the Argentina star, who hit 15 goals in 27 league games for Real this season.

Wenger missed out on the likes of Juan Mata and Gary Cahill in recent transfer windows because the club refused to meet the asking price - and that pattern has continued with Higuain

MAN CITY will hand new boss Manuel Pellegrini £100m to buy five superstars.

Khaldoon Al Mubarak has revealed Malaga coach Pellegrini - Roberto Mancini's successor - will get a massive summer transfer budget.

The five targets are: Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, Malaga playmaker Isco, Seville winger Jesus Navas, Brazilian Fernandinho and Roma defender Marquinhos.

Cavani is valued at £54m.

Isco has a £30m buy out clause but hopes he can link up with Pellegrini.

Isco said: "He's been my footballing father and I know that he likes me. Of course I would like to continue with him. It's a very important decision for me and I don't want to get it wrong."

Around £15m would be enough to secure Navas's release with the Spanish media reporting that a deal has been done but Fernandinho's buy-out clause is £42.5m.

Fernandinho, though, wants to play in the Premier though, wants to play in the Premier League and nail a place in Brazil's World Cup squad next year.

Khaldoon will hold transfer talks with Pellegrini as soon as he moves to the Etihad.

The City chairman is hell bent on buying big to win honours after a trophy-less season.

Khaldoon said: "This is going to be a very important year for us.

"We will have a new manager on board and from day one he has a responsibility to prepare a team for us for next season.

"A team that will be able to compete to win every competition we are involved in. We are now at that level."

JOHN BARNES: LIVERPOOL SHOULD SELL LUIS SUAREZ

DAILY STAR SUNDAY

“
I would like Luis Suarez to stay but if he is not happy and doesn’t want to then he’s got to go.

Liverpool legend John Barnes

By Carl Eldridge

SULKING Luis Suarez has been told by Kop great John Barnes it is best that he leaves Liverpool this summer.

The controversial Uruguay striker has stunned boss Brendan Rodgers by demanding a transfer.

And shell-shocked legend Barnes believes wantaway Suarez should be hurried out of the Anfield exit door if he no longer has the desire to play for the Reds.

Suarez, 26, has declared he wants a move from the Merseysiders and has been linked with a £40million switch to Real Madrid.

The striker, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season, moaned that he has endured fierce criticism during his time in the English top flight.

He reckons that came to a head after he was given a ten-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

He said: “I think that it’s understandable I leave.

“The coach and my colleagues know that the press didn’t treat me well. I don’t feel comfortable any more.

“I don’t have any offer yet and I don’t know when I will leave – but it is a good moment for a change of environment after all I have been through in England.

“I have not spoken with Real Madrid nor with Liverpool and my agent has not told me anything either.”

Now Barnes, 49, who played more than 300 games for Liverpool over a decade from 1987, has urged Rodgers to flog the unhappy hitman.

He said: “I would like Luis Suarez to stay but if he is not happy and doesn’t want to then he’s got to go.

“I always tell fans to fall in love with the club not with individual players.

“Players come and go. Fernando Torres decided to move on from Liverpool, Wayne Rooney could leave Manchester United and Robin van Persie left Arsenal last summer.

“Yes, I want Luis Suarez to stay. I think he’s a great player. Forget what he does off the field – I’m not judging him by that – but if he wants to go, then he should go and fans should accept that.”

Meanwhile, Rodgers has been urged to splash the cash on highly-rated Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

Greek star Papadopoulos, 21, joined the German club from Olympiakos two seasons ago and Rodgers believes he could strengthen the Anfield backline following the retirement of Jamie Carragher.

And Schalke indicated they are ready to allow the player to move to Merseyside for around £13m by signing Borussia Dortmund’s Brazilian defender Felipe Santana, 27.

Former Liverpool idol Jan Molby has welcomed the bid to snare the big Bundesliga stopper.

He said: “I’m not surprised that Liverpool are hoping to secure the services of Papadopoulos this summer.

“He is as strong as a bull, dominant in the air and very good in one-on-one situations.

“When I’ve seen him in action in Champions League matches, I’ve been impressed.

“He hasn’t played since before Christmas due to a knee problem but I’m sure Liverpool will have received reassurances that he has made a complete recovery.

“He certainly fits the profile in terms of the type Liverpool seem to want to build a team around – he’s a talented young player with real potential.”

Rodgers has landed Man City central defender Kolo Toure and Molby, 49, has applauded that deal, too.

He added: “I can see the appeal of bringing in Toure on a free transfer.

“I am sure that Toure would  understand what his role would be.

“He wouldn’t be starting every week but there would still be plenty of games for him to take part in.

“When Man City signed him four years ago, most clubs in the world would have taken him at that time.

“He’s older now but at 32 he still has plenty to offer Liverpool.”

GARETH BALES’s chances of joining Real Madrid this summer may have been damaged by his agent’s midweek outburst.

That’s the view of ex-Tottenham boss David Pleat in the wake of Jonathan Barnett’s comments seemingly encouraging the Spanish giants to make a move for the Welsh wonder.

Pleat believes Barnett’s interview on Tuesday with a TV station in Madrid was nothing more than a sales pitch on behalf of the £80million-rated Bale.

Pleat, who has had four different spells in charge at Spurs, said: “I know Jonathan well.

“He is opinionated and he is a salesman, which all agents are and he is talking up his player, who he has represented since his Southampton days.

“He has done a good job for Bale – but Bale has done a good job himself.

“Gareth is still a young man, he is calm and not chasing to go abroad too early.”

Yet in a veiled warning, Pleat added: “But I am sure Tottenham will dig their heels in if they feel there is some antagonism from an outside third party trying to push the deal on.

“Tottenham have made it absolutely clear, and I believe it, that Gareth will not go anywhere before next season.”

Pleat added: “Let Madrid decide to have a discussion if they want and then Tottenham can rebuff that discussion in their own time.

“Maybe in a year from now, if he has another good season, Gareth may go.”

GORGEOUS Lucy Mecklenburgh is secretly dating The Only Way Is Essex co-star Dan Osborne, we can reveal.

The brunette beauty, 21, has been seeing hunky Dan, 23, for the past two weeks but has kept their romance secret from fans.

The pair have enjoyed a string of saucy nights together while filming in Spanish holiday hotspot Marbella for the ITV2 series.

And looking at our exclusive snaps of Lucy on the beach it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out what first attracted Dan to her.

A source close to the star last night told the Daily Star Sunday: “The relationship is still in the early stages but it’s looking very good so far. They’ve been having a lot of fun getting to know each other.

“Spending time together in Spain has worked wonders and they’re starting to get really close.”

Boutique owner Lucy last week insisted she was single in an interview with new! magazine.

She said: “I couldn’t think of anything worse than going on a date with a guy.”

Lucy and Dan have been open about their budding romance with fellow TOWIE stars. And they are set to go public in an episode of the show, which returns for its ninth series tonight.

The pair started dating just weeks after Lucy split from long-term love Mario Falcone over claims he cheated on her.

Mario, 26, is reportedly seeing a 16-year-old pal of Lucy’s younger sister.

Our source said: “Lucy was originally hurt that Mario had moved on so quickly. But she’s hardly thought about him since getting with Dan.”

Lucy endured a turbulent relationship with former show star Mark Wright, 26, when she joined the TOWIE cast in 2010.

A pal said: “She’s had bad luck with men so here’s hoping this relationship works out.”

PSG are poised to launch a £15million swoop for Newcastle star Yohan Cabaye.

The Magpies midfielder, 27, is at the top of the mega-rich French champions’ summer shopping list following two impressive seasons in the Premier League.

And the bad news for the Toon Army is that PSG are confident of landing him – aware that the Gallic ace would jump at the chance of a big-money switch.

Although content at St James Park, Cabaye, who has three years left on his contract, reckons joining one of Europe’s elite clubs would guarantee him an integral part in France’s World Cup challenge in 12 months’ time.

And with PSG’s main priority next term the Champions League, the lure of a four-year deal worth an estimated £120,000-a-week would be irresistible.

Toon boss Alan Pardew is desperate to keep Cabaye, who also interests Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger and Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas.

But neither north London club is willing to compete with loaded PSG.An offer of around £15m is expected to force the Geordies to do business over playmaker Cabaye, who cost Newcastle just £4.5m from Lille in July 2011.

One hitch is the uncertainty surrounding PSG’s managerial position.

Real are keen to replace Chelsea-bound coach Jose Mourinho with the Paris club’s Carlo Ancelotti.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp is back in the frame as a surprise contender for the Everton manager’s job.

He was quoted at short odds a week ago to replace David Moyes, who is now in the Manchester United hot seat.

But Redknapp disappeared off the radar, with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright whittling down a 30-strong list of contenders to just three.

It is reported Wigan manager Roberto Martinez, Salzburg sporting director Ralf Rangnick and Porto boss Vitor Pereira are the hat-trick of choices.

Redknapp cannot be ruled out at this late stage, though, with Kenwright ready to announce the new Goodison manager tomorrow.

The QPR boss has had close links with Kenwright for a number of years and the chance to stay in the Premier League after the Hoops’ relegation would appeal.

A QPR club source revealed: “We hope he stays with us but we are concerned we could lose Harry because of the club’s relegation.”

Kenwright is understood to have been completely “blown away” by Rangnick when they met in London on Thursday.

He had the same feeling when he first talked to Moyes 11 years ago before appointing him as Goodison boss.

Martinez looks to be in the driving seat after a second interview but Kenwright is fully aware of murmurings among the faithful about his Premier League credentials.

Redknapp, though, would tick all the boxes for the Blues.

Brighton, meanwhile, are reported to be ready to move for free agent Phil Neville after his Everton contract finished last month.

But Neville is looking for a role nearer home and would be interested if new Manchester United boss and former manager David Moyes came in for him.

TOWIE babe Lauren Pope was left battered and bruised when a thug punched her in the face in an unprovoked attack.

She had just finished filming for The Only Way Is Essex in Marbella, Spain, when the yob attacked.

The blow was so violent that Lauren needed emergency dental treatment to replace a tooth.

Revealing her ordeal to the Daily Star Sunday, Lauren, 30, said: “A guy came up and punched me in the face.

“I had to get one veneer replaced and all the inside of my mouth was bruised. My tongue is swollen and black because I bit it when he smacked me.”

Lauren, who was once linked to Prince Harry, 28, had been enjoying a night out at Aqua Mist nightclub last Thursday with fellow stars Chloe Sims, 31, Joey Essex, 22, and James “Diags” Bennewith, 21.

She said: “Diags went in to get our coats. I was waiting with Chloe and Joey when some guy started throwing food at us.

“We asked him what he was doing and he came over and started laughing. I told him to go away and he punched me in the face.”

Lauren, who did not report the attack to police, said : “It’s scary…You have no idea what people are capable of.”

Fans of the ITV2 show will not see the incident as there were no cameras present and it will not be referred to on screen.

THE Duchess of Cambridge’s family have been accused of cashing in on the Queen’s Coronation anniversary with a “tawdry” range of royal-style red, white and blue party ware.

This weekend Brits are celebrating the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

To help them get in the spirit, Kate’s family firm Party Pieces is flogging royal-looking “Best of British” street party goodies and Union flag items to celebrate the Coronation of June 2, 1953.

The royal in-laws’ range includes an 18in red, white and blue inflatable beer mug drinks holder for £6.99, reduced from £7.99, plus Best of British party cups with a regal-style crest for £2.99.

For the big spenders there is an £18.18 Union Jack Ultimate Party Kit with plates, napkins, table cover, bunting and balloons.

And in case the English weather lets us down they have even got 99p Union Jack kids’ plastic ponchos.

Labour MP Paul Flynn said: “This is grubby cashing in. The whole thing is degrading and tawdry.

“You’d think as relations they’d be above exploiting the relationship for grubby financial purposes.

"The call to hold street parties will be met by the nation with a gigantic yawn. Today’s souvenirs are tomorrow’s eBay trash.”
