JOSE MOURINHO will hold summit talks with John Terry next week to decide if he has a future at Chelsea.

The pair are due to meet with Terry desperate to prove he can be part of Mourinho's plans at Stamford Bridge next season.

But the new boss still needs convincing, with bad blood lingering over the part Mourinho feels the defender played in his Stamford Bridge exit in 2007.

The former Real Madrid boss was convinced Terry, then his captain, had something to do with Roman Abramovich axing him six years ago.

The Terry camp have always denied that, but the former England captain is now entering the final year of his current deal.

And the 32-year-old is no longer seen as the backbone of the side as injuries and age start to catch up on him.

Mourinho is unsure whether he can be relied upon at the highest level any more.

But he will still give Terry the opportunity to prove he would be content with being a squad player for much of next season.

Terry has had interest from Galatasaray and Monaco, who would both be prepared to match his current £150,000-a-week wages.

And though he has claimed in the past he wants to see out his career with Chelsea, Terry is keen to play regular first-team football and it's understood he would consider a move abroad.

Mourinho has already been busy trying to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League and Champions League next season.

Chelsea have contacted Napoli to sound them out about a deal for striker Edison Cavani, though they may baulk at a price tag of around £50m.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said: "Chelsea... will call me soon. I'm very happy that his (Cavani's) brother has said that he will stay, but if he did decide to go to Chelsea we would take time out to... replace him."

Pleasure Uruguayan Cavani was top scorer in Serie A last term, netting 29 goals in 34 appearances.

Meanwhile, Branislav Ivanovic says he can't wait to start working under Mourinho.

The Chelsea defender completed his move from Lokomotiv Moscow just four months after The Special One departed in 2007.

Ivanovic said: "I'm so happy because it is a pleasure to work with one of the best and most successful managers in the world.

"I know it's going to be hard, it's going to be very tough. But I'm happy and look forward to that.

"Everyone who loves the club is so excited and a lot of fans will be so happy to see him back at Stamford Bridge."
