Singer Louise Hall, 18, fell unconscious after suffering a severe asthma fit.
She was rushed to hospital after passing out for at least five minutes following a bust-up with bandmates.
A show source last night told Daily Star Sunday: “It was horrible to watch and everyone was terrified the worst had happened.
“The asthma attack appeared to come out of nowhere and the next thing you knew she was lying unconscious.
“After she had been out for five minutes people really started to freak out.”
The horrific incident threw the ITV show into chaos. Welfare staff worried the pressure of competing had killed her.

“Louise was out for 5 minutes. We feared she might be dead”
Our X Factor insider
Louise was among around 100 wannabes to make it to boot camp after sailing through the audition heats as part of a group.
They were set their first challenge on Thursday afternoon and worked on their routine for three hours before returning to a nearby hotel.
A row then broke out between her bandmates just before she suffered the attack.
Our insider added: “The argument got quite heated and there’s no doubt it led to Louise passing out.
“The acts all put themselves under so much pressure to do well and it obviously proved too much for Louise. When it happened everyone panicked as they weren’t sure what was going on. She was out cold for at least five minutes, which was scary.
“Asthma attacks can be deadly so everyone was so worried.”

Nervous producers called an ambulance and Louise was taken to a nearby hospital.
Louise was kept in by doctors for several hours before later being given the all clear in the early hours of Friday.
The brave lass had last night returned to compete for a place at the judges’ houses stage.
A show source said: “No one knew if Louise would want to continue and there was no pressure on her to do so.
“She was left pretty shaken up by the whole thing. The whole way through Louise was given the full support of the X Factor welfare team. She was in safe hands.
“But she was adamant she wanted to return. The schedule of acts was changed at the last minute to give her as much time to recover as possible and a good chance to rehearse.”
The series is set to return to TV screens later this month with mouthy Sharon Osbourne, 60, back on the judging panel after a six-year break.
