ARSENAL great Bob Wilson has emerged as a leading candidate to replace outgoing Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood.

Old Etonian Hill-Wood, 77, has hinted he is ready to step down after illness.

Hill-Wood has been chairman since 1982 and on the board since 1962 but had a heart attack and pneumonia earlier this year.

Fans’ favourite Wilson, 71, won the Double with Arsenal in 1971 and has acted in an ambassadorial role since finishing as an anchorman with the BBC.
