CHELSEA are in talks with Napoli to buy £53.5m striker Edinson Cavani.

The clubs will discuss the deal today, with Chelsea having to pay out 26-year-old Cavani's release clause to bring to Stamford Bridge.

Outspoken Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentis told Italian radio station Radio Marte: "There is interest from Chelsea in Cavani, they'll call me in the next few hours."

And he hinted that he's not going to lower his demands for the striker, who has a £53.5m release clause in his contract.

"If Cavani is sold then I'll reinvest all of the €63m of his release clause."

Jose Mourinho built his team around striking beast Didier Drogba in his first spell at the club and powerful Cavani will give Chelsea a similar physical presence up front.

The Uruguayan scored 36 goals for club and country last season.
