Immigration Repatriates 350 Nigeriens

No fewer than 350 Nigeriens have been repatriated to their country of origin from Katsina State by the state command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, controller of immigration in the state, Alhaji Umar Bulama has said.
While parading 55 Nigeriens arrested in the state, Bulama told newsmen that the illegal immigrants were arrested in a special raid embarked by the service last week. Bulama said, “From last week to date, we have repatriated 350 Nigeriens and we’ll continue to send them back to their country if found living in Nigeria without valid documents as directed by our new CG, Mr David Pardang.
“We embarked on the special raid in line with our determination to rid Katsina State of illegal immigrants and the exercise continues,” he noted.
Bulama said the raid is being carried out in all the 34 local government areas of the state assuring that arrangements had been concluded to repatriate all those arrested back to Niger Republic.
“As you can see, our vehicles are ready and they will be taken back to their country” Bulama said adding that the raid is not targeted at nationals of a particular country but all illegal immigrants.
He said despite complaints by security agencies and the public, NIS will continue with the exercise, saying “general public and other security agencies should bear with us as the exercise is aimed at enforcing law and order.”
One of the arrested immigrants, Hamisu Dahiru who said he is a native of Batata in Niger Republic state of Maradi admitted entering the country without requisite papers but pledged to regularise his papers if given the chance.
