REAL MADRID are trying to convince Xabi Alonso to sign a new contract in a bid to end speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the Spain midfielder, who has a year left on his current deal.
And Madrid chiefs are wary that the Special One may try and tempt the 31-year-old to Stamford Bridge.
Alonso's representatives have been in discussion with Real president Florentino Perez for some time but have still not agreed a deal, according to sources in Spain.
Mourinho worked closely with Alonso - a virtual ever-present in the Real line-up - during his reign at the Bernabeu.
The Portugese tactician played Alonso in 42 games last season and knows his passing range could be a massive asset for Chelsea.
Alonso already has Premier League experience having spent five years at Liverpool before making the £30m move to Madrid in 2009.
