But the unsettled France star is at loggerheads with Lyon, calling on them to lower their asking price after they turned down a £7m bid.
Gomis has put the blame for the delay on Lyon, who want £9m plus up to £2m in add-ons for their prize asset, who has 12 months left on his deal.
The 27-year-old claims to have agreed terms – believed to be about £45,000 a week – to join Newcastle after sounding out some of the French contingent at St James’ Park.

Tim Krul is on the verge of a comeback three months after shoulder surgery. The Dutch keeper, who is set to play in next week’s friendly at Rangers, said: “It’s great to be back in full training and I’m looking forward to the game.”
