LIVERPOOL are closing on Dutch league star Christian Eriksen, but are now facing competition from Roma.

According to Danish daily Ekstra Bladet, sources at Ajax have revealed both clubs are now approaching the negotiations stage, but haven't registered formal bids as of yet.
Eriksen has recently revealed he'll stick with his current club and sign a new deal if there are no other attractive offers on the table.
Speculation surrounding the midfielder's future has heated up recently with both Manchester United and Tottenham keeping tabs on the situation.
And Eriksen's agent revealed that there was plenty of interest in his client earlier this week.
He said: "Yes, we are still in dialogue with certain clubs and it will always be like that with a player such as Christian," said Martin Schoots.
"At present it is difficult to say whether this contract will result in a transfer, so we will not speculate about it now.
Eriksen's deal with the Eredivisie outfit expires next summer.
